What to Know Before You Go to Hong Kong

Students selected to intern in Hong Kong are given a stipend of $5,000 to cover all expenses related to the internship. Thus, the students are responsible for booking and purchasing their own travel tickets and renting a place to stay while in Hong Kong. BEO will help make connections for the student in order to search for housing, but finding and securing a place to stay is the student's responsibility.
In terms of other travel-related arrangements, this internship does require obtaining a work permit for non-Hong Kong citizens, which will be facilitated by our office and the Human Resources office of the company in Hong Kong. For stay in Hong Kong, there are no specific immunizations required; however, if you plan personal travel outside the city, you are advised to check with your doctor for recommendations. BEO provides health insurance and emergency evacuation coverage for the duration of the internship abroad.
Prior to going, BEO organizes a cultural orientation session with former interns, current students, and/or faculty at Brown who have lived and/or worked in Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, there will also be many opportunities to connect with Brown alumni.
The internship in Hong Kong takes place at a private equity firm. Interns are expected to arrive in the office on a mutually agreed upon date where they will be introduced to their co-workers and receive their assignments.
