Benefits of Participation

• Project ARISE curriculum is aligned with new RI Science Grade Span Expectations and is designed to help teachers meet expectations in student achievement in science, including to improve student scores on upcoming statewide science exam

• Comprehensive instruction on and support for inquiry-based approaches to teaching that are integrated into teacher’s current science curriculum

• Neuroscience, Physiology, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics content integrated into general biology or more advanced biology classes

• Mobile lab equipment, advanced lab exercises and knowledgeable consultants available to teachers during the academic year following training and in subsequent years

• Students and teachers invited to Nature of Discovery Symposium held at Brown University in the spring

• Participation in a learning community of scientists, education specialists and high school biology teachers

• Professional development credits (five credits) available through the RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that can be used to satisfy recertification requirements.

• $2,000 stipend provided for attending program in summer and participating during school year

• Supply budget provided to participants for purchase of additional educational resources
