Typical Day

Monday – Friday
Brown offers a 3-week session for English language learners. Students are in class every morning from 9:00AM-12:00PM and every afternoon between 1:00PM and 4:30PM

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Classes in session: speaking, writing, listening and reading.

12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Lunch is served in one of Brown’s dining halls

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays
Elective classes in session.  Choose TOEFL Preparation or English for Business or Academic Writing.

1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays & Thursdays
Site visits with your class.  Students will visit area sites of interest: RI Statehouse, RI Community Food Bank, historic Slater Mill). These site visits contribute to the students’ understanding of New England life and American culture.

Evenings
Activities and events are available most evenings to students in the residential program and commuters. Workshops on the college admission process, guest lectures, documentary films, yoga classes and much more take place in the evening during the week. Note: Students are required to attend class on time and be prepared to actively participate in class discussion. Participation in program-related activities is mandatory. Additional campus events are scheduled and are optional for all summer students. Students may find that they have free time during the week and are expected to manage their time appropriately.

Weekends
The weekends heat up with popular social activities such as dances, Karaoke, talent shows, poetry slams, and block buster films. Trips to popular nearby destinations such as Boston, Newport, Rhode Island area beaches, and shopping outlets take place on Saturdays and Sundays.
