Outside the Classroom

Brown welcomes thousands of students to campus during the summer. As an Intensive English Language Student, you will have access to all of the facilities and events taking place during the summer. There are no additional fees for any of our extra-curricular activities.

  • Pick-up soccer games on the green, trips to minor league baseball games, volleyball tournaments, bowling trips

  • Movies, pizza parties in the dorms, parties in the "Bear's Lair," ice cream socials

  • Ballroom dancing, poetry slams, talent shows, dances, trips to museums, public concerts, Shakespeare performances, and Providence's famous Waterfire festival

  • Trips to Boston, Newport, Mystic Seaport, area beaches, and a host of other beautiful places

  • The Annual Brown University Summer College Fair with representatives from more than 100 colleges on campus, lectures from world-renowned guest lecturers, workshops on the admissions process.

Workshops and Events on Campus

Workshops and classroom activities focused on the American college admissions process and life as an undergraduate are the center of this program. You will work with university instructors and college students to increase your preparation for academic life in college. This program provides you with insider information on the how-tos of university preparation. Sessions will explore test-taking strategies and information on how to develop a strategic approach to choosing the best college for you.

College Success Series

The core of the Summer@Brown experience is learning the skills you need to succeed in the college environment. With that goal in mind, Brown has developed the College Success Series, a series of lectures and workshops designed to help students network, learn about their choices, and better understand the admissions process at selective colleges from all over the United States. The College Success Series is a unique benefit of attending the Pre-College Summer Program.

  • Get first-hand information from Brown admissions officers regarding Brown and the admissions process

  • Network with representatives from over 100 colleges and universities during the annual Summer College Fair

  • Attend workshops like College Study Skills, How to Write a College Application, & How to Write an Application Essay

  • Meet one-on-one with representatives from select colleges around the country
