Summer in Bologna

Immerse yourself in the Italian language while absorbing Italian history and culture in Bologna, one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Italy. Nicknamed “the dotta” (the learned), Bologna is the seat of the oldest institution of higher learning in Europe and possibly the world, founded in 1088 (Thomas Aquinas, Dante and Petrarch are among its alumni). The city provides a welcoming and exciting extended classroom, with its wealth of monuments and museums, vibrant nightlife and renowned cuisine (its second nickname is “the grassa”, (the fat).

Largely free of mass tourism, Bologna maintains a strong local identity. Its central position puts it at the heart of the extensive Italian railroad system, making it an ideal base for short excursions. Florence, Pisa and Venice are in close proximity and easily accessible by train. A train journey of less than two hours takes you to the Riviera of Romagna, where the famed resort beaches of Rimini and Riccione are located. The International airport of Bologna is connected to all major European capitals.
