(Brown Community Only)

This summer Brown's Science Center is approaching the final design phases. Administrators and faculty are working with architects from Bergmeyer, Inc., to develop a space equipped with state-of-the-art information technology, including live feeds from NASA and other scientific agencies, facilities for interactive teaching and learning, and workstations with the latest scientific software.

The Science Center will be located on the third floor of the Sciences Library. The books on the third floor have been removed, and construction of the air conditioning system, which will serve the entire building, is slated to begin this summer. Construction of the Science Center itself will take place this coming fall and winter. The Center plan allows for individual and group study, interactive workshops and teleconferencing, and student and faculty collaborations across science disciplines.

With an anticipated opening in the early spring, the Science Center will foster a lively community of students and faculty engaged in scientific research, teaching, and learning. The Center will house academic mentoring and support programs and serve as the campus clearinghouse for information about research, fellowship, and internship opportunities at Brown and around the world. The Center will also sponsor community education programs that extend Brown’s science-related resources to the broader community.
