Dean for Issues of Chemical Dependency

Brown University is committed to the maintenance of a campus environment that supports all students in achieving their academic goals. To that end, the University dedicates resources to support students in recovery from chemical dependency and to assist all students who are negatively affected by their own or others' substance abuse.

Kathleen McSharry, the Dean for Issues of Chemical Dependency at Brown University, provides comprehensive academic and social support in non-clinical settings for Brown students affected by alcohol or drug abuse. Housed in the Office of the Dean of the College, the Dean is also a resource for all members of the campus community who are concerned about their use of drugs and alcohol, who suspect that someone they know has a problem, or who are negatively affected by others' substance abuse. The Dean collaborates with other divisions of campus life to provide over-lapping services to students in recovery, to develop campus policies regarding alcohol and other drugs, and to educate all members of the campus community about alcohol and drugs and their effects.
