Writing Fellows

Writing Fellows are Brown undergraduates who have been trained to help other students improve their writing skills. After completing a seminar on the theory and practice of teaching writing, each Fellow is assigned to a course for which a professor has requested a Fellow. Fellows work one-on-one with students in the course to help them draft and revise at least two papers. Each year, the program serves 40 courses in all disciplines and at all levels, from introductory philosophy lectures to seminars in biomedical ethics.

The Writing Fellows Program allows faculty to emphasize writing without having to become writing teachers themselves. Students enrolled in writing fellowed courses benefit from intensive peer-directed learning. The Writing Fellows themselves gain valuable experience that enables them to develop as writers, speakers, and educators.
