Course Lottery (1st Round Placement and 2nd Round Opening), July 1 Deadlines, CHEM 100-web Course
Greetings, Class of 2015!
This week's email contains information about the first-year course lotteries, reminders about upcoming deadlines, and information about the online Chem 100-web course.
* First-year Course Lottery – 1st Round Results *
If you entered the first round of the Course Lottery, you can find out your course placements by going to the lottery and clicking on the “My Placements” tab: https://apps.college.brown.edu/course_lottery/. Those who did not get placed in the first round receive priority placement in the second.
* First-year Course Lottery – 2nd Round *
The second round of the first-year lottery opened this morning and closes July 8 at 5 pm. If you have not yet selected a first-year seminar, we encourage you to do so. If you were placed in a CAP course in the first round, you can select a non-CAP first-year seminar (FYS) in the second round. A complete list of FYS and CAP courses is at http://www.brown.edu/college. (Click on the "New Students" button at top left.)
Remember that if you are in either PLME or UCAAP, you should not choose a CAP course. Similarly, if you plan to concentrate in engineering, do not enroll in CAP; we will match you with an advisor in engineering. If you think you might concentrate in math, physics, or chemistry, those departments encourage you to select a CAP course in one of those disciplines.
* July 1 deadlines *
July 1 is the deadline for submitting your health history forms and your Brown ID Card photo. For the health history forms and instructions, click here: http://brown.edu/orientation/planning/materials.php. To submit a photo for your Brown ID Card, log into the secure area of Banner (https://selfservice.brown.edu), click on the “Applicant and Student” section, and use the link for Brown ID online photo submission. The instructions tell you what kind of photograph will be accepted and what to do if you run into trouble with online submission.
* Chem 100-web course, June 15-August 15 *
This free, on-line course reviews general chemistry and helps you practice for the fall Chemistry 0330 exam. The Chem 0330 placement exam is required for any student wishing to take Chemistry at Brown, unless you have the appropriate AP score (see Chemistry Department website) or plan to take Chem 0100. Students with Brown usernames and passwords can register for the course any time between June 15 and August 15. To register, go to http://www.chem.brown.edu/undergrad/Chem100flyer2011_12%20.pdf.
Please email Advising@brown.edu or call 401 863-9800 if you have any questions. We'll be in the office all of next week, but closed the week of July 4.
