Fall Pre-Reg, Sophomore Advisor confirmation

Dear first-year students,

Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed your spring break. Today's email contains vital information about course registration for the fall and about your academic advising for next year, so please read carefully.

- Pre-registration for Fall 2012

The advising period for fall 2012 pre-registration began on Monday and lasts until April 13. You should plan to meet with your advisor and Meiklejohn sometime between now and the 13th, and you can begin registering at 8:00 a.m. on April 19. Your advisors are expecting to hear from you, so get in touch ASAP to schedule a time to meet. Remember that you’ll need a new alt-PIN to pre-register.

- Sophomore advising

Your second important task before leaving campus for the summer is to let us know your choice of sophomore advisor for next year. You can do so via the online Advisor Confirmation Form. Most students choose to continue with their current advisor through the sophomore year, but if you’ve identified someone else with whom you’d like to work, you may ask that person to serve as your advisor . Either way, check with your intended advisor before submitting the form.

If the person you indicate agrees to advise you next year, a confirmation email will be sent to you and you're done. If your prospective advisor is unavailable to work with you, you’ll receive an email directing you to select a different advisor. Your choice of sophomore advisor will go into effect immediately if it’s your current advisor, or next fall if you’ve chosen someone new.

Need some help thinking through your options? See one of the academic deans or a Randall advisor (faculty who advise sophomores and “rising” sophomores), either of whom can help you think through your advising choices. Deans are available 10-4 Monday through Friday in University Hall and 1-4 at Advising Central; Randall advisors are available during designated afternoon times at Advising Central: http://brown.edu/College/advising_central/calendar/.
