International Students
Support for international students at Brown is available through several offices, including International Student and Scholar Services, Campus Life and Student Services, and the Dean of the College (DOC).
The first stop for all students studying on a visa is the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS), which handles all matters related to immigration and student visa issues.
Campus Life and Student Services (CLSS) provides support that makes Brown home, from dining services and residential life to health and wellness and community engagement. Campus Life also advises the International Mentors Program (IMP), a peer-advising program organized primarily by Brown international students. International Peer Mentors help orient incoming international students to life at Brown and in the United States.
Students will find answers for all of their academic concerns through the Dean of the College office. DOC deans and program directors oversee all aspects of the undergraduate academic experience at Brown and advise students on course selection, undergraduate research, tutoring and writing support, study abroad, internships, public service, leave-taking, fellowships, careers, and life after Brown.
Students with questions about international certification credit and advanced standing should contact the Office of the Dean of the College. F-1 undergraduate international students who seek Curricular Practical Training (CPT) employment authorization from OISSS must acquire DOC approval of their proposed CPT, which must be an integral or required part of your curriculum and course of study, per U.S. immigration regulations. Further instructions for CPT may be found on under the F-1 student category on the OISSS website.
