Liberal Learning and Diversity Perspectives

Liberal Learning Courses

Liberal Learning Courses introduce students to the many ways of thinking and of approaching knowledge that comprise a liberal education. Liberal Learning Courses emphasize active student involvement; students are expected to contribute extensively through papers, projects, reports, and class discussion. Liberal Learning Courses are flagged in the course descriptions with an LL designation. A list of LL courses is available on the online course announcement web site under “Curricular Programs.”

Diversity Perspective Courses

Courses designated DP, for Diversity Perspectives, focus primarily or at least substantially on the knowledge and experience of groups that are underrepresented in traditional approaches to knowledge and learning. These courses examine the ways in which disciplines, histories, and paradigms of knowledge are reconfigured by the study of diversity-related intellectual questions. A list of DP courses is available on Brown’s online course bulletin under “Curricular Programs.”
