2008 Senior Honors Thesis Publication Competition

Dear Department Chairs, Concentration Advisors and Honors Thesis Advisors:

Every year, at about this time, the Senior Thesis Publication Committee recruits honors theses for its publication competition. The Publication Committee has been delighted with the breadth and the high quality of work submitted from all departments these past few years, and we look forward once again to reading and evaluating the newest batch.

For the 2008 competition, I would like to request that you select ONE exemplary Senior Honors Thesis per concentration, and submit the following:

A hard copy of the thesis, accompanied by an electronic version on CD.
A brief letter indicating your department’s sense of the merits of the work.
A one-page synopsis suitable for reading by non-specialist reviewers (to be prepared by the student).

Please submit your nominations with all accompanying documentation to my office, Room 201 University Hall, Box 1828, by May 13, 2008.

Typically, the committee gives high marks to theses that contribute to new understandings of a particular field without losing its ability to inform a broader academic audience. The expectation is that they will be well written and capable of being published without substantial editing.
