Andrew Simmons
Associate Dean of the College for Health Careers & Pre-Law
Andrew Simmons has been Associate Dean of Health Careers at Brown since 2005 and recently has added law school advising to his responsibilities in the Office of the Dean of the College. He holds a PhD in higher education administration from Boston College where he concentrated in college student development as well as history and philosophy of education. His dissertation was a qualitative study of premedical student engagement with liberal education and his current scholarly interests focus upon the nature of parent involvement in college student development. Prior to coming to Brown, Dean Simmons was class dean and health professions advisor at Brandeis University; he also served in several positions in student affairs at Brandeis. Dean Simmons is a 1989 graduate of Hampshire College where he concentrated in history and music. He also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Tufts University and was a certified history teacher before moving into higher education. Beyond his professional life, Dean Simmons enjoys reading novels, playing his guitar, writing songs, biking and jogging, creative writing, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
