On a separate sheet of paper, please include the following information:
• Describe how this assistantship relates to other opportunities for students to work with faculty members in your department. These assistantships are intended to assist departments that have developed a sequence of collaborative exp
eriences through which undergraduates can work with faculty in a variety of ways. While some departments have developed a sequence, we understand that all may not have done so.
• Describe the position and give a title to the project. If the student will work on a particular course, list the name and number of that course and describe the project goals and the student’s responsibilities. For a research
assistantship, describe the research proposal or project on which the student will work and specify the scope of the student’s work within that project.
• Describe why this particular student is appropriate for this position. Include in this description a brief assessment of the student’s interests, talents, and potential as a teacher and/or scholar. Please indicate any prior opportu
nities the student has had to work collaboratively with faculty members that might have provided prior background for the proposed work, such as in the Curricular Advising Program or Meiklejohn Advising Program, the Women in Science and Engineering Mentor
s Program, the Rose Writing Fellows Program, or a departmental research or teaching assistantship.
• Students are required to submit a statement (not to exceed one page) about how the project materialized, about the work they expect to do with the professor on this project, and how it fits with their interest, preparation and career
plans. We ask the students to let us know how they heard about the UTRAs.
Submit 7 copies to UTRA/Odyssey, Room 207
