Job, Pay & Performance

Staff

Employment Services of the Human Resources Department oversees the job application process, working with managers, employees and applicants to effectively fill vacant positions and answer questions and concerns related to staff jobs, pay and performance. The team also works to communicate offers of employment, integrate new staff members, and assist managers in the establishment of reasonable work expectations for new staff members. Each department at Brown has a designated HR Generalist who provides consultation services to staff and managers in all areas of human resources management.

Compensation Services of the Human Resources Department is responsible for managing, advising, and training on all practices related to pay including the setting of salaries for newly hired, transferred, or promoted employees. We conduct salary surveys, analyze pay practices, and establish salary ranges. We provide guidance on organizational structure, work flow, and writing position descriptions. We evaluate jobs using the Hay System, assign job grades, and manage the job audit process. We administer Brown's compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and make determinations regarding the classification of positions as exempt or non-exempt based on FLSA criteria. We manage the annual salary increase process and provide guidance and training on the effective distribution of the salary increase pool.
