Great Training Opportunties- IT Security and IT Project Sponsorship for Administrators
by heather emerick, consultant, CLPD
Did you know that the Center for Staff Learning & Professionald Development and Computer Education are just two of the many departments on campus offering training programs. This month we would like to highlight some great programs that are happening at Brown.
Cyber Security Awareness Month
Phishing lures, online scam artists, laptop snatches, "drive-by" attacks on unsecured wireless. Cyberspace can be dangerous if you're not careful. There's a lot at risk: your laptop, bank account, months of research, a reputation, future job prospects, even your identity. Learn all about cyber security by visiting the Cyber Security Awareness Month page. While you are there, read the latest issue of Secure It and sign up for one of the "Safe Computing Brown Bags". All of these resources are there to equip you with the knowledge and common sense to keep you, your computer and your identity safe.
IT Project Sponsorship for Administrators
Have you ever felt frustrated talking to IT people? Do you desperately need a database to keep track of students, or faculty, or grants, or whatever, but have no idea where to start? Have you been involved with IT projects in the past that crashed and burned? This class might help you.
Developed and taught by Biomed IT Director Cliff Hirschman, the class is designed for administrators and managers who wish to learn how to effectively partner with technical staff doing database development for department-level projects. It is not a technical class; it will not teach you FileMaker or Access, and you won’t even touch a keyboard. Instead, it is about being an effective IT project “sponsor”…the person that identifies the need, defines the requirements, lines up the internal resources, and is ultimately responsible for seeing that the system gets built and meets the department’s needs. About 1/2 hour of advance preparation is required. Click here to register.
