Howard Foundation at Brown announces 1998-99 grant winners

Eleven writers and poets from colleges and universities throughout the country have received 1998-99 fellowships from the George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation, administered by Brown University.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation, administered by Brown University, has announced 11 fellowships of $20,000 each for the 1998-99 academic year. The winners, all from the creative writing field, were selected from among 150 scholars nominated by administrative officers of colleges, universities and cultural institutions throughout the country. Among this year's winners is Peter Gale Nelson, assistant director of Brown's graduate Creative Writing Program.

The Board of Administration for the Howard Foundation has announced that the 1999-2000 fellowships will be awarded in the fields of literary criticism, film criticism and translations into English.
