USCIS Case Status & Processing Times
USCIS processes cases of the same type based on the order in which they were filed. You will be notified when a decision on your case is made or if something more is required of you.
A receipt number is assigned to each case. It starts with three letters, such as "EAC," followed by a series of numbers. Use your receipt number to get basic case status information from the automated systems to supplement the information about processing times.
If you choose to check your case status and track the processing of your case online, keep in mind:
- Processing time is a projection of how long it will take to process cases filed before yours and then process yours.
- USCIS will not research your case to give you details about the status of your case while it is within the normal processing time.
