Physical Therapy Policy
Employees in a modified duty status requiring release time for medically required physical therapy should be allowed up to one hour per day for a maximum of three days per week (total 3 hours per week), to attend physical therapy if the need for therapy is due to an on the job injury. The time allowed for release is not to be used for errands or other personal business.
The employee must obtain prior approval from his/her immediate supervisor and agree upon the release and return time. This will be preferably at the beginning or end of each shift, so as to minimally impede the work schedule. Otherwise, the employee has the obligation to return to work after the designated one hour period. Sessions lasting over one hour will be charged to the employee as sick or vacation time per the home department's policy on usage of such entitlements.
The need for physical therapy sessions must be documented by a physician and should be scheduled during non-work hours when possible. All therapy sessions scheduled during working hours require approval by the supervisor.
Brown University reserves the right to review an employee's use and/or abuse of the physical therapy paid program and take appropriate actions.
