Tuesday 3 November
From 1917 to 1920 the Woman's Land Army brought thousands of women into rural America to take over the farm work after men were called to wartime service. For 90 years, the farmerette has been lost, totally and inexplicably forgotten, wiped from the national memory. Elaine Weiss brings the lost story of the farmerette back to American history in her book Fruits of Victory. Co-sponsored by the Sarah Doyle Women's Center, John Nicholas Brown Center of Public Humanities & Cultural Heritage, the Pembroke Center, and the Pembroke Associates, this talk begins at 6:30 p.m. in List Art Center, Room 120. ######
