|The Provost, Richard M. Locke, is the chief academic officer of the University, with responsibility for all academic and budgetary functions within the College, the Graduate School, and the School of Medicine, including the academic functions located in departments, interdisciplinary programs, academic centers, and institutes.|
The Provost chairs the Academic Priorities Committee (APC), which is responsible for fulfilling the academic mission of the University, and chairs the University Resource Council (URC), which is responsible for recommending to the President the capital and operating budget priorities of the University. The Provost provides daily management of the institution and directs overall strategic planning. The Provost works closely and collaboratively with the President in order to effectively carry out these responsibilities, and presides over the affairs of the University in the absence of the President.
Those who report to the Provost include the Dean of the College, Dean of the Faculty, Dean of the Graduate School, Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences, Dean of Admissions, Vice President for International Affairs, Vice President for Research, the University Librarian, the Vice President for Computing and Information Services, and the Director of Financial Aid.
