Group Purchasing Consortiums

These groups (national and regional) serve to leverage their membership’s buying power to Develop contracts for supplies, services, and equipment. The membership is actively surveyed to determine organizational requirements/expectations prior to the contract development process, and then continuous updates are provided on current offerings through web sites, periodic reporting, and on-campus visits.

Brown University currently holds membership status in two major (national) group cooperatives. Vector/Amerinet (Health Services) and E&I Cooperative Purchasing. Both groups offer a broad portfolio of contract agreements, and the Purchasing Department’s role is to review and identify those agreements where the national group leverage is superior to Brown’s individual leverage. Examples are healthcare supplies through Cardinal Health, Office Furniture through Steelcase, Inc., and P-Card service through JPMorganChase, Inc.
