Teaching Certificate IV Program:
Sheridan Center Teaching Consultant Program
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 2012-13
The Sheridan Center Teaching Consultant Certificate IV Program provides selected participants with professional training in the development and application of peer observation and feedback skills, and in the development of leadership and discussion facilitation skills. As a result, participants become part of a Teaching Consultant Community (TCC). The Certificate IV Program centers on the principles for effective communication, the creation of an environment for inclusive learning, and the continued development of a reflective and reflexive teaching practice to promote improvement of teaching and collegial exchange about teaching and learning. Brown Teaching Consultants are trained to apply these core principles to the Individual Teaching Consultation, the Presentation Consultation, the Micro-teaching Session, and to leading discussions for the Certificate I Program workshops. Skills developed in the Certificate IV Program will be applicable toward effective communication and facilitation in academic careers as well as in other professions. Participants will also develop an understanding of evidence-based teaching practices.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of Certificate IV you should:
- Have developed an understanding of peer feedback and consultation as a formative and reflective process.
- Be cognizant of your consultation style, and the ways in which this can i) facilitate formative feedback; and ii) inform the ways in which you observe and interpret your own students in relation to your teaching goals.
- Develop a working understanding (through your TC experiences) of how scholarly teaching is an iterative, reflective practice that is also dependent upon engagement with a broader community of teachers and learners.
