Grading Rubrics and Teaching
Training Graduate TAs

This issue of The Teaching Exchange features of articles by faculty on interdisciplinary teaching, departmentsl assessment of faculty performance, teaching paperless courses, and preparing graduate students to effectively mentor undergraduate research. In addition, there are two articles on the Sheridan Center's 2002-2003 resarch survey on using grading rubrics to communicate the meaning of grades to students: one featuring faculty "best practices" and one describing graduate student ideas about what sort of grading rubrics help them teach. Finally, photographs of the Teaching Awards Ceremony in April 2003 provide a sense of that spectacular celebrationof our collective commitment to teaching, both at Brown and at RISD. We hope these articles will inspire discussion and debate among colleagues across campus and we welcome contributions from faculty and graduate students in future issues of the Teaching Exchange.
