Brown Tops Providence on Parent’s Weekend

Brown moved to 7-1-1 on the season with a win at home over Providence College.

Prop Naomi Briendel-Oberman ‘10 opened the scoring in the 14th minute diving through a messy ruck to score. Chelsea Garber ‘12 converted to put Brown on the board 7-0. Five minutes later Naomi found the gap again and punched over for her second score, Chelsea converted, Brown 14-0.

At the 24th minute flanker Izzy McKinnon ’11 made a beautiful tackle in the Providence goal, the PC player coughed up the ball and prop Mai Nguyen ‘12 jumped on it for the score, Chelsea Garber converted and Brown led 21-0. Off the ensuing kick-off flanker Izzy McKinnon gathered in the ball and ran deep into Providence territory, center Alicia Hartley ‘10 was there in support and took the ball over for the score, the conversion was missed and Brown led 26-0 at the half.

In the second half Brown was able to substitute 10 players and keep the pace and the scoring up. Scrumhalf Blair Station ‘12 opened the second half scoring with a nice pick and dash off a ruck, center Anna ‘Stan’ Stanicoff ‘12 converted and Brown led 33-0. Flanker Moira Kyweluk ‘10 was next to score - counter rucking and taking the ball off the back. She drove over for the score, Stan converted, Brown 40-0. The final try was a nice play by club president Marisa Rodriguez ‘10 working with flanker Moira Kyweluk to drive Providence over their own line, Marisa dove through the pile and touched down to put Brown up 45-0.

Brown is on the road the next two weekends, next Saturday we travel to UMASS-Amherst to face a tough UMASS side. The following week we end the league season at West Point facing a very talented Army team.
