Pneumococcal Bacterial Meningitis

 

 

 

Gross photo of the brain of a 3 month old child who presented as a case of sudden death. Note the engorged leptomeninges and the purulent

 material covering the brain. Cerebrospinal fluid was positive for Streptococcus pneumoniae. The spleen of this patient was normal.
