Normal bronchial pattern

The normal bronchial pattern is apparent in this posterior view of a newborn’s lung. There is an eparterial bronchus

(probed) arising from the right main bronchus but on the left there is a greater distance before the first branching.

Understanding the normal pattern is important when evaluating cases of heterotaxy.
