Brown Graduate Program in Environmental Studies
The goal for the Master of Arts Program in Environmental Studies is twofold: to help graduate students understand emerging environmental problems and to strengthen their competence in managing them.
BROWN-MBL GRADUATE PROGRAM IN BIOLOGICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
A Ph.D. program offered through a partnership between Brown and the Marine Biology Laboratory (MBL).
Center for Energy Research (CER)
First announced in June 2009, Brown University is teaming with Draper Laboratory to become a major player in energy efficiency and smart grid research.
Center for Environmental Studies (CES)
CES activities include integration of teaching, research, and service, and takes an applied approach to environmental education and problem-solving. Included at its site are links to courses, seminars, theses, job and intern opportunities, and CES newsletters (updated weekly through the school year).
Environmental Change Initiative (ECI)
Brown’s ECI fosters interdisciplinary collaborations across the campus and with colleagues around the world. There are links to research, courses, activities, publications, and internal partners.
Global Environment: The Watson Institute for International Studies
The Global Environment Program addresses the challenge of global environmental change through scholarly, policy-relevant analysis drawing on the natural and social sciences. They include links at their site to projects, news and publications.
DIVISION OF ENGINEERING
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Engineering with a focus in Environmental is offered in cooperation with the Environmental Studies Program and is intended for students who want to prepare for positions and/or graduate programs in environmental policy, planning, and regulation. Four of the environmental-related courses offered are ENG 1930S (Land Use and the Built Environment: An Entrepreneurial View), ENG1930V (Engineeers of the Future: Architects of Dreams), ENGN0930A (Appropriate Technology), and ENGN1930U ( Sustainable Energy Technologies).
THE SUPERFUND BASIC RESEARCH PROGRAM (SBRP)
SBRP is a federally funded program (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences) designed to address health and environmental issues associated with hazardous waste sites. Brown's SBRP, "REUSE IN RHODE ISLAND: A State-Based Approach To Complex Exposures", is multi-disciplinary and a research, training and community oriented program aimed at addressing Rhode Island's health and environmental issues.
