The Department of Classics is one of Brown’s original academic departments, established when Brown was founded in 1764. The department offers advanced work in Ancient Greek, Latin, Sanskrit and Modern Greek languages, literatures, history and philosophy.
The Department of Classics provides instruction in Ancient Greek, Latin, Sanskrit and Modern Greek languages, literatures, history, culture and philosophy. Our department offers an undergraduate degree in Classics that includes several optional “tracks,” as well as a graduate degrees in Classics.
Each year, the Classics Department welcomes a number of international scholars to present lectures and host colloquia, contributing to the lively program of intellectual exchange.
Classics and Modern Greek Studies
Modern Greek Studies is housed in the Department of Classics, fostering an intellectual exchange of reception studies.
