Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition in the Graduate School for the 2009-2010 academic year is $4,756 per course or $38,048 for the eight courses required for the MAT degree. For purposes of evaluation, each course may be considered the approximate equivalent of four semester hours. Generally, tuition increases by approximately 3% from year to year.

Financial aid is available in the form of tuition scholarships and is awarded on the basis of financial need, past performance and evidence of potential success in the program. In addition, students may be eligible to borrow funds through the Federal Direct Student Loan Program depending on financial need. Consideration for need-based federal aid (Federal Direct Loans and Federal Work-Study) is based on status as a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. and is determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Candidates applying for financial aid must complete the following steps by February 1, 2010 (The application process is detailed from the Graduate Student link off financialaid.brown.edu):

  1. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
  2. Complete the Brown Supplemental Aid Application

For additional information about the federal aid application and eligibility, contact the Office of Financial Aid: (401) 863-2721.
