Cambodian Educational Outcomes

Undergraduate Diane Lee's research project aims to explore the roles of perceived familial obligations, parental attitudes, and values within the cultural context in explaining resiliency against risk for academic failure among Cambodian families. She is examining the intergenerational dynamics in determining why children with parents who are less acculturated into the American culture have better academic outcomes. In addition, her study aims to study the cultural differences of how parental influence affects academic achievement in Cambodian and European-American families.

Diane is in the process of interviewing high achieving Cambodian children and their families in the Providence area.
