COLLEEN DALTON, Assistant Professor
Geochemistry Building, Room 161
401-863-5875 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

Colleen_Dalton@Brown.edu
I am a seismologist, and my research is focused on imaging the Earth's interior using seismic waves. The overarching goal of my research program is to determine 3-D variations in the temperature, composition, partial-melt content, and volatile abundance of Earth’s mantle.  Together these properties exert strong control over mantle convection, the evolution of the planet’s interior, and the plate motions at Earth’s surface. I take two complementary approaches in addressing these questions. One, I use the amplitudes and travel times of seismic waves to image seismic-wave attenuation and velocity throughout the mantle. Two, I pursue the interpretation of seismic models together with constraints from other disciplines, including petrology, geochemistry, and mineral physics.

KAREN FISCHER, Professor
Geochemistry Building, Room 163
401-863-1360 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

Karen_Fischer@brown.edu
My research involves imaging the structure of the Earth's crust and mantle using seismic waves in order to better understand dynamic processes inside Earth.

DONALD FORSYTH, Professor
Geochemistry Building, Room 158
401-863-1699 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

Donald_Forsyth@brown.edu
My research has four major lines: ocean-bottom seismometer and marine geophysical studies of oceanic crust and upper mantle, isostasy of continents and oceans, lateral heterogeneities and azimuthal variations in seismic velocity in the mantle related to convection, and the dynamics of mid-ocean-ridge tectonics.

DAVID GOLDSBY, Associate Professor, Research
Geochemistry Building, Room 034
401-863-1922 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

David_Goldsby@brown.edu
I am interested in how micro-physical properties of geological materials influence large-scale geophysical processes.  I study flow and fracture of ice to understand deformation of glaciers and ice sheets, the frictional mechanics of rocks and minerals to understand earthquake nucleation and coseismic fault slip, and indentation creep of minerals to understand low-temperature flow of rocks in the Earth.

JACK HERMANCE, Professor Emeritus
Geochemistry Building, Room 167
401-863-3830 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

John_Hermance@brown.edu
My research is in the area of environmental geophysics and hydrology.
J. GREG HIRTH, Professor
Geochemistry Building, Room 035
401-863-7063 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

Greg_Hirth@brown.edu
My interests are in experimental rock mechanics, deformation mechanisms in both crustal and mantle lithologies, structural geology, application of experimental flow laws to geophysical and geological observations. (Also does interdisciplinary research with the GMP group).
E. MARC PARMENTIER, Professor
Geochemistry Building, Room 162
401-863-1700 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

EM_Parmentier@brown.edu
My research centers on understanding the roles of melting, melt migration, and mantle dynamics on the long-term evolution of the interior of the Earth and other planetary bodies.
JAN TULLIS, Professor
Geochemistry Building, Room 033
401-863-1921 > 401-863-2058 (fax)

Jan_Tullis@brown.edu
My research involves experimental investigations of the deformation mechanisms, microstructures, and rheology of crustal rocks. (Also does interdisciplinary research with the GMP group).

TERRY TULLIS, Professor Emeritus
Geochemistry Building, Room 016
401-863-3829 > 401-863-2058 (fax)
