In April 2010 Aldo Mazzucchelli published his second book, entitled La mejor de las fieras humanas (Taurus, Montevideo, 639 p.), which serves as the first critical biography of a key figure of Latin American fin de siècle intellectual ambience, Julio Herrera y Reissig. He is now working on a third book that examines the relation between the historical project of individualism/"modern lyric poet" and current perceptions and self-perceptions of "the poet" in Latin American post-postmodernism.

- Bartolomé Hidalgo Prize for best Historical Study published in 2009-2010 (Montevideo, Cámara Uruguaya del Libro, October 2010).
- Ministerio de Educación y Cultura (Ministry of Education and Culture, Uruguay) National Literary Award to the Best Poetry Book Published in the year 2004. 2nd Prize, for the book Wysiwyg, July, 2006.
- T.A.E. Poetry Prize, Montevideo. First Prize, for the book Ánima, July, 1989.

Latin American Literature 19th-20th centuries; individualism and the project of the "modern lyric poet" in Latin America; theories of metaphor; poetry, rationality, irrationality and the occult; Julio Herrera y Reissig; the cultures of modernization and avant-garde in Latin America (1888-1930); tango and the culture of modernization in Buenos Aires and Montevideo, (1880-1935).
