Undergraduate Student Paper Prizes Sponsored by
The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World
The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World is pleased to announce three prizes to honor undergraduate students who have shown great accomplishment in the study of archaeology through their writing.
Students can submit up to one paper per category. Students may submit a paper to more than one category, provided that it meets the guidelines for each of the categories in which is it being considered (for example, a paper may be submitted to categories 1 and 3, or 2 and 3).
The prizes are as follows:
Archaeology Paper Prize: ARCH 0001-ARCH 0999:
Student paper prize for the most outstanding piece of writing in an Archaeology and the Ancient World (ARCH) class at the introductory level (courses under ARCH 0999, including officially cross-listed courses with an ARCH course number) taken in Fall 2015 or Spring 2016.
Archaeology Paper Prize: ARCH 1000-ARCH 2999:
Student paper prize for the most outstanding piece of writing in an Archaeology and the Ancient World (ARCH) class at the advanced or graduate level (courses ARCH 1000-2999, including officially cross-listed courses with an ARCH course number) taken in Fall 2015 or Spring 2016. This includes papers by undergraduates submitted to graduate seminars.
Archaeology Paper Prize: All Courses:
Archaeology paper prize for the most outstanding essay dealing with any aspect of archaeology, from any time period or geographical region. This competition is not restricted to papers submitted to an Archaeology and the Ancient World (ARCH) course but is open to any piece of unpublished writing written for a course taken at Brown University in in Fall 2015 or Spring 2016, exclusive of honors theses.
Winning submissions will receive cash awards and will be published on the Joukowsky Institute’s website, www.brown.edu/go/archaeology. Winners will be contacted via email.
How to Apply:
- Essays must be submitted as attachments, as Microsoft Word or Adobe pdf documents, via email to email@example.com
- All submissions must include a completed submission form, available via download as a pdf document or Word document.
- The email’s subject heading should read “Student Paper Prize 2016”
- Please save your submission as YourLastName2016 (e.g. Smith2016.doc)
- All undergraduate students are eligible to apply
- Entries must be received by
