Ben Teitelbaum Wins for Outstanding Dissertation
Ben Teitelbaum, Ph.D ethnomusicology, has been awarded the Joukowsky Family Foundation Outstanding Dissertation Award for his dissertation "'Come Hear our Merry Song:' Shifts in the Sound of Contemporary Swedish Radical Nationalism." Teitelbaum's research is based on extensive ethnographic fieldwork among white nationalists, neo-Nazis, counterjihad activists, and other ultra social conservatives in the Nordic countries. He explores howthese forces are using music to reconceptualize themselves and the populations they claim to fight for. His dissertation was selected for the Joukowsky Award out of all others completed in Brown humanities departments this year. The award will be presented at Brown's Commencement ceremony on May 26. Teitelbaum is currently Instructor and Head of Nordic Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
