Gávea-Brown

Gávea-Brown Publications was founded in 1980 under the auspices of the Center for Portuguese and Brazilian Studies,Brown University, its purpose being to make Portuguese literature and culture better known in the English-speaking world. With such a broad as well as ambitious objective, its plan was to publish titles in such rather diverse areas as: a) translations of Portuguese literature; b) works relating to Portuguese Studies; c) original creative works, in English or in Portuguese, which in some way reflect the interactions of Portuguese and American cultures, particularily those offering insight intothe experience of the Portuguese in the United States. The press also publishes a semi-annual journal, Gávea-Brown, which is especially dedicated to work in this last area.
