Founded in 1935, Brownbrokers is an organization dedicated to the production of original student-written musicals. Each December, Brownbrokers produces a full-length, completely student-written, produced, and directed musical on Brown University's Department stage. Each spring, a board consisting of peer-elected students who have participated in past Brownbrokers processes selects a show to produce. After choosing a show, the Brownbrokers board helps to develop and refine it through a series of workshops and readings before the show goes into rehearsals the following fall. The opportunity to have student work produced on a department stage with a full budget is a unique one, and Brownbrokers is committed to fostering the best possible shows by tomorrow's leading writers.
This past season, Brownbrokers presented its 72nd production:
ELSEWARDS, book and lyrics by Jessie Hopkins, music by Jerzy Fischer.
