Dance

Through the Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies, students may take courses in dance technique, composition, and history. We are primarily a modern dance program, but also have a strong West African dance, music and culture component. We have also utilized our flexible curriculum to offer courses in children's dance theatre and community outreach, pedagogy, anatomy and kinesiology, and the body therapies, and are very supportive of students who wish to work independently on any of the numerous topics that can enrich one's knowledge and appreciation of the art of dance.

We offer at least two departmentally sponsored concerts a year, which consist of works by students, faculty, and guest choreographers. All students are encouraged to choreograph and/or audition for these shows. There are, additionally, many opportunities for dancers to choreograph and perform in musicals and plays and to work behind the scenes on theatre productions.
