Extra-Curricular Dance Program
Brown also boasts a vibrant and active extra-curricular dance program. Student-directed dance groups, representing diverse dance styles and cultural traditions, make up this strong extra-curricular program. These companies include multi-style groups Fusion, Attitude, and imPulse; groups that focus on a specific dance style, Ballroom Dance Club/Team, Breakdancing Club, Swing Club, Divine Rhythm (Step), Offbeat (Hip Hop), Bruinettes Dance Team (Hip Hop, jazz), Contra and Folk Dance Society, What’s On Tap and Brown University Movement Experiment (BUME); and groups that focus on the dances of specific cultures Amira Bellydance, Argentine Tango Club, Brown University Chinese Lion Dance, Badmash (a South Asian dance team), and MEZCLA (a Latino performing arts group.) New groups are created all the time to reflect evolving student interests.

A student-run umbrella organization, Body & Sole, supports the activities of student dance groups and independent dancers. It produces concerts, coordinates the use of Ashamu Dance Studio for students, and is the liaison between the extra-curricular dance community and the department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies.
