Prospective Students

If you are interested in pursuing the Visual Art concentration at Brown University, you must first apply for undergraduate admission. Please visit the Brown Admissions website for details. By the end of your fourth semester at Brown, you will be required to declare a concentration and choose a degree program. Click here to read more about the Visual Art Department's concentration requirements.

Although portfolios are not required for undergraduate admission, applicants interested in pursuing the Visual Art concentration are encouraged to present portfolios to enhance their application file. Portfolios should be designed to reveal and/or highlight the applicant's creative potential. Applicants are encouraged to present a diverse body of work focusing on individual artistic strengths and interests.

Please include approximately 10 color prints of work, along with a list of the pieces including title, size, and medium. We encourage drawings, paintings, collage, sculpture, photography, books and mixed media; we discourage the submission of ceramics, jewelry and other crafts.

The portfolio should be submitted to the Brown Admissions Department at the time of application.

Portfolios will not be returned.
