Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP
In October of 2006, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) for Windows XP, changing the look and feel of the browser while providing enhanced security features. To view the new features of IE7, visit Using Internet Explorer 7 with Windows XP.
CIS support for Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP begins May 30
While this new product offers many enhancements, there are no systems or applications at Brown that require the use of IE7.
What do I need to do?
You do not need to do anything, because Internet Explorer 7 will be distributed by Microsoft as an automatic update in the near future. At this point (early June) we think that most of our campus Windows users have IE7.
Some things to keep in mind
- The public computing clusters will be updated prior to the start of the Fall Term with Internet Explorer 7.
- Keep another browser, such as Firefox, available for use with those applications that do not work well with IE7.
- If you find that you are unhappy with the browser's performance and wish to convert back to IE6, you may simply remove IE7 using the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel.
