The Warren Alpert Medical Education Building (MedEd) began construction in 2010, and was occupied by Fall 2011. It is a 134,000 gross square feet former manufacturing facility in the heart of Providence's historic Jewelry District, which is located between the main campus and area hospitals. The building interior was completely renovated into a state-of-the-art Medical Education Facility.

The MedEd houses Administrative Offices, Lecture Halls, a Library, Case Study Rooms, Student Academies, Clinical Studies and a Gross Anatomy Lab. These elements are organized around a "central spine" which is multi-storied. Additionally, a cafe on the bottom floor is opened to both the students and the general public.

This project was designed with the latest technologies which make it highly energy efficient and targets a LEED Gold rating from the US Green Building Council.

This website was created in cooperation with a Brown University Sustainable Design course and visualizes the MedEd Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) scorecard. Additional detail about each category can be found by clicking on the category link in the recipe card at the top of each page. Tours of the building can be arranged by contacting the Project Manager.
