"the farther he walked"; čím is used with a comparative degree form. It is most frequently combined with a clause containing tím + comparative degree form: e.g. čím dál šel, tím míň bylo šlépějí - the father he walked, the less there were footprints; čím (je) starší, tím (je) hloupější - the older, the stupider.
