The JNBC Practicum Program
The John Nicholas
Brown Center invites applications from museums and other cultural
organizations for the JNBC Practicum Program, which supports the
mission of host organizations and provides valuable training for
students in Brown University's M.A. in Public Humanities program.
Institutions are eligible for JNBC practicum grants, providing
$1000 to support the work of the student.
The Practicum Program: Practicums--essentially internships
with additional academic requirements--are a key part of Brown's
M.A. in public humanities. They provide practical, hands-on training
that is essential for careers in museums, historic preservation,
and cultural agencies. A successful practicum will result not
only in a completed project of use to the institution, but also
a better understanding of the public humanities for the student.
The practicum should encourage reflective practice: not only practical
learning, but also a thoughtful understanding of the nature of
work in the field.
