The mission of Brown Health Services is to
provide to its patient population high quality, confidential
primary medical care that is continuously improving.
Health Services believes that physical and
psychological health allow the student to devote more meaningful
effort to the stated goals of education and self discovery.
Health Services is also a place where education, self discovery
and intellectual growth take place.
Emphasis is placed on:
1) providing on site and campus wide primary
medical care and health educational services that meet the
majority of the health needs of the students.
2) conducting periodic and continuous evaluation
of the quality and accessibility of medical and health educational
services and consumer satisfaction.
3) recognizing that the goal of the University
is education, Health Services provides services which acknowledge
that many of the issues of college students involve developmental
concerns and behaviors (e.g. sexuality, eating concerns,
peer relationships, risk taking behaviors). As such, we
support an active Health Education department and a schedule
that allows providers to spend sufficient time with students
to address these concerns in the context of their medical
care.
4) providing cost effective services to patients
and to the University.
5) providing quality medical services to Brown
University employees in the form of urgent treatment and
referral of on the job injuries and work related illness.
6) providing medical consultation and selected
services to address the health care concerns of the entire
Brown Community.
