Summer Services

Before using our services during the summer (May 28th - August 23rd), you will need to pay the Summer Health Fee-- $144, paid at Health Services, 863-3953, or through the Bursar's Office, 863-2484 (Summer Studies tuition includes this fee for students while enrolled).

To schedule an appointment with a Psychological Services clinician, phone the office at 863-3476, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Welcome

Psychological Services provides assessment, brief psychotherapy, and crisis intervention to all Brown students. When a student calls for an appointment, an intake is scheduled with one of the therapists on staff. At the end of this initial visit, the student and the clinician decide whether to schedule further appointments. If the student is interested in ongoing therapy beyond seven sessions, the clinician makes a referral to therapists in the community. When appropriate, a medication consultation is scheduled with one of our staff psychiatrists.

We consider it to be a sign of strength when a student decides to seek help. We know that the counseling process can result in healthier adjustments and personal growth for people who seek it.

Students from all of the diverse backgrounds represented in the Brown community make use of our services. They come to us during times of crisis and high stress, when their usual coping mechanisms are not working well, or when they are faced with making difficult decisions. They may be having problems relating to friends, roommates or family; struggling academically; having difficulty declaring a concentration; or feeling anxious or depressed.

Our staff has many years of experience in dealing with a broad range of problems. We provide crisis intervention, short-term psychotherapy, and referral services. We offer consultation to students, faculty and staff who are concerned about the well-being of students. Our appointments are free of charge, our contacts with students are confidential, and we are available when classes are in session.

Please contact our office by phone or come in person to Psychological Services. We do not make appointments via email for confidentiality reasons.
