English as a Second Language Support Services
The ESL Coordinator in the Office of the Dean of the College’s Writing Center works with undergraduate and graduate English language learners. The ESL Coordinator’s office is in the Writing Center on the 2nd floor of J.W. Wilson, which is located at 69 Brown Street. Advertised ESL group tutorials and workshops take place in J.W. Wilson, Room 203.
Services for undergraduate students:
- One-on-one appointments with the ESL Coordinator
- One-on-one appointments with Writing Center Associates trained by the ESL Coordinator
- Group ESL workshops/ seminar sessions (e.g. Academic Presentations (ESL), Writing in the American Style (ESL), American Conversational Slang (ESL) , Navigating a Seminar Discussion (ESL) , Strategies for Reading in English (ESL), Plagiarism: What is it and How to avoid it (ESL)
Services for graduate students and visiting scholars:
- One-on-one appointments with Writing Center Associates trained by the ESL Coordinator
- Graduate Weekly ESL Seminar Series (Wednesdays from 1-3 pm)
- Workshop Series (Academic/Research Presentations for Graduate Students (ESL), Plagiarism: What is it and How to avoid it (Graduate ESL), Introduction to Research Paper Writing (Graduate ESL)
Services for faculty/teaching assistants:
- Classroom observations by request
- One-on-one appointments to discuss differentiated instruction/assignments for ESL
- Collaborate with faculty to provide students with a supplemental ESL workshop specific to a content area, course, or particular assignment
