Announcing our Spring Opera!

BOP is proud to announce our Spring Opera:

The Turn of the Screw

by Benjamin Britten

based off the novella by Henry James

March 19th-21st

This operatic rendition of Henry James’ famous novella has become known for its dark subtely, rich music, and intense atmosphere.  Ostensibly a ghost story, this gripping tale of the sinister corruption of youth has thrilled and captivated audiences ever since its debut.

Turn of the Screw presents an electrifying and challenging opportunity, and we encourage you take advantage of this chance to shape the production. We are currently accepting applications from individuals with a strong dramatic sense to stage direct, as well as talented musicians interested in musically directing the exquisite score. We look forward to hearing from you!

Recordings and scores are available on reserve at the Orwig Music Library. Please contact BrownOperaProductions@gmail.com for more details or with any questions. Applications are due Friday, November 13th.

Those interested in being involved in other aspects of Turn of the Screw
are also free to contact us. Audition and other information will be released later this semester–stay tuned!

Monsieur Choufleuri restera chez lui….

THIS  WEEKEND!

Brown Opera Productions proudly presents its FIRST EVER Fall Operetta.

Monsieur Choufleuri is a new money Frenchman–in order to get in with the upper crust of’ Paris, he plans a musical soiree, engaging three famous Italian singers to perform. However, all three cancel. Quel dommage! However, Ernestine, Choufleuri’s daughter, suggests that she, her father, and her lover Babylas impersonate the Italian singers. No, they don’t speak Italian, but it’s easy, right? Will they pull off this charade? Will Babylas win Ernestine’s hand despite the grumpy Choufleuri’s objections? Come and find out!

Monsieur Choufleuri by Jacques Offenbach

The bumbling Monsieur Choufleuri (Mr. Cauliflower) is a new money Frenchman–in order to get in with the upper crust of Paris, he plans a musical soiree, engaging three famous Italian singers to perform. However, all three cancel. Quel dommage! Ernestine, Choufleuri’s daughter, suggests that she, her father, and her lover Babylas impersonate the Italian singers. No, they don’t speak Italian, but it’s easy–you just add “o” or “a” to the end of every word, right? Right. Will they pull off this charade? Will Babylas win Ernestine’s hand despite the grumpy Choufleuri’s objections?

Those interested in production–costume designing, light designing, set construction, assistant production managing, assistant light designing…contact Joe Rim joseph_rim@brown.edu. We are also looking for a pianist for rehearsals and performance. Contact audrey_chait@brown.edu for any further information.
