Monsieur Choufleuri Auditions

Wednesday May 6 8:30-10:30

Callbacks Friday May 8 times TBA

Please prepare an aria or art song. You may be asked to read sides, which will be provided at the audition. Recording and libretto available in Orwig. You can also listen to audio samples here and here. Rehearsal begins in the fall.

The bumbling Monsieur Choufleuri (Mr. Cauliflower) is a new money Frenchman–in order to get in with the upper crust of Paris, he plans a musical soiree, engaging three famous Italian singers to perform. However, all three cancel. Quel dommage! Ernestine, Choufleuri’s daughter, suggests that she, her father, and her lover Babylas impersonate the Italian singers. No, they don’t speak Italian, but it’s easy–you just add “o” or “a” to the end of every word, right? Right. Will they pull off this charade? Will Babylas win Ernestine’s hand despite the grumpy Choufleuri’s objections?

Those interested in production–costume designing, light designing, set construction, assistant production managing, assistant light designing…contact Joe Rim joseph_rim@brown.edu. We are also looking for a pianist for rehearsals and performance. Contact audrey_chait@brown.edu for any further information.

Website Updates

I’ve made some updates to our site (mostly under the hood) so please send us an email if you notice any broken links or other missing content. You can also check out the fantastic Elisir photos thanks to Adam Robbins and the Kostadinovas over at the past productions page. Additionally, we’re working on filling in content on older productions that haven’t made it onto the website yet, so let us know if you have anything that you’d like to see posted. Thanks!

As always, the email address is brownoperaproductions@gmail.com.

Board Apps Now Open

Congratulations to the cast & crew of L’elisir, which was a spectacular success! BOP board applications are once again open. Email brownoperaproductions@gmail.com for a copy of the application form and to be assigned a board buddy. Once you have it filled out, please email the app back to BOP no later than Monday 3/16; interviews will be held on 3/17 and 3/19 for those who applied.

Web Ticket Reservations Fixed

Sorry if some of you could not make ticket reservations though the new system - we’ve gone back to the old one for now, so it should work for you again. Reserve away!

Shiny new website

Enjoy BOP’s much-updated new website, thanks to Arvid Tomayko-Peters! Not only does it look prettier, but it’s more secure and easier to update. Let us know what you think in the comments or with an email to brownoperaproductions@gmail.com. Thanks for visiting!

A Busy Winter

The Winter Arias Concert is fast approaching! Check the upcoming events page for more information. If you would like to sing in the concert, email matthews.andrea at gmail dot com. We’d love to hear from you!

BOP is still looking for orchestra members for L’elisir d’amore. We need violins, percussion, bassoon, and trumpet. Send an email to brownoperaproductions at gmail dot com if you’re interested. Orchestra rehearsals start soon.
We are also considering hosting a week-long opera writing competition later in the semester. We would love to see interest from composers, librettists, and performers. The competition would probably take place shortly after spring break and is intended to be a fun, short (but intense) way to get involved with BOP. Email jake_greenberg at brown dot edu if this sounds like something you’d be interested in!
