FRS Decommission Announcement

The Financial Records System (FRS) will be out of service June 1, 2015 to accommodate decommissioning of the mainframe computer. When this happens, FRS, Web Ledgers, and Web Requisitions (Web Reqs) will no longer be available.

Brown University went live with Workday Financials on July 8, 2013. Until now, the FRS mainframe application remained available to view historical financial data. There are, however, many University resources required to maintain this legacy system, and the time has come to inactivate the FRS mainframe application.

Will FRS data be available after June 1, 2015?
Yes. While the FRS application will be shut down, legacy financial data from this application will continue to be available as follows:

  • FRS and Web Ledgers data—through the Cognos reporting tool
  • Web Reqs data (purchase order and open commitments)—the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) and Accounts Payable can query this data on your behalf. If you need data related to a grant, contact the OSP; otherwise, contact Accounts Payable.

How do I get Cognos Financial Records Reports?

To request Cognos access, submit an access request for the Financial Records Reports folder (supervisor approval required). Need help submitting an access request? Contact [email protected].

NOTE: Cognos Financial Records Reports will be available for the foreseeable future. If you don’t need access now, but find you need FRS data in the future, you can request access at that point with supervisor approval.

Can I get Cognos training?
Yes. CIS offers a 2.5 hour Introduction to Cognos Connection & Running Reports class monthly.
